We were recently asked a question by a consumer- did our jewelry make your finger green? This is a very good question asked &  we thought we would ponder on this a little more with a more explanatory answer. Have you ever had a reaction to jewelry you purchased? Did it make you doubt that it was of real silver?

Many people have skin reactions to some of the 925 sterling Silver Jewelry made this is an allergic reaction that happens in many people that wear 925 sterling silver. Which is 92.5% silver & 7.5% copper so we thought we would explain to you the process of making 925 sterling silver Jewelry. Also,on how to keep yourjewelry clean & reaction FREE.

First off silver is a very soft metal & is proned to bend & scratch easily. This is not durable enough for jewelry. So silver is combined with the copper to give the metal strength & durability. Now when you make things with 925 silver it will with stand the wear & tear on the metal. Such as a ring worn on the hand. The hands get alot of use & are every where.

Sometimes though people have allergic reactions to the copper in the 925 silver causing the finger & ring to become green, black or even rust colored. This is either caused by a reaction to being allergic to the metal happens when you sweat, or having a high acidic ph in the body which can be caused by tomatoes, garlic anything eaten often that has a high acidicity.

To fix this especially on new rings & jewelry try:

*Soaking the ring for a day or two in a 50/50 mixture of household ammonia and water should take care of the problem.

*Another solution is to simply clean your ring & jewelry every day with a silver polishing cloth .  After about a week or two, the reaction should stop occurring.

* Also applying a thin layer of clear nail polish on the inside of the ring will prevent perspiration & body sweat from reaching the metal and reacting to it. You can also do this with pendant's etc...

*Take off jewelry when washing hands or bathing. Keep jewelry dry.

*Keep your jewelry clean & tarnish free. If the piece begins to tarnish, clean it immediately.
