The Get; Mix Master

1. Michael Macko, the men's fashion director at Saks Fifth Avenue, takes the all-American style that his store is identified for and gives it a twist, whether it is a bespoke suit in a boldly subversive stripe or perhaps a preppy button-down mixed with plaid trousers as well as a bright Charvet tie. ''I'm a classicist, but I love a contemporary spin on things,'' he says. 3. Macko can thank Miuccia Prada for 1 of his current acquiring coups. A couple of seasons ago, Prada utilised richly patterned fabrics from the English manufacturer Holliday & Brown, inspiring him to commission exclusive tie and shirt collections for Saks. This fruit-and-vegetable-pattern shirt, $230, livens up even the moncler jackets grayest of suits.

4. When it comes to blue, sometimes nothing beats the tried and true. ''There are a lot of wonderful things happening inside the denim market, but I constantly come back to Levi's, specially their Premium Collection,'' he says. five. Macko prefers classic shoes, but not too strait-laced. His favorite new line: Barker Black from Derrick Miller, who utilised to design Ralph Lauren neckwear. 8. 1 of his favorite upstart lines could be the California-based label Wonderful China Wall. This recycled and revamped vintage jacket is $1,350. ''This season, the dandy evolved into the raconteur,'' he explains. ''Clothes have histories.''

9. Saks is getting your goat, and then some: this week it plans to unveil ''Wild About Cashmere,'' a winterlong tribute towards the golden fleece. Rebecca Moses designed this tie-dyed sweater, $245, for the store's own label. ''It's a technique you anticipate on a T-shirt, but all luxed up in plush moncler vest cashmere,'' he says.

10. Macko often finds things in unlikely places. It took him a quite farsighted year to uncover these Lemtosh reading glasses; $129 at Sol Moscot (Sixth Avenue at 14th Street). He calls them ''the excellent blend of retro-geek nerd chic and Left Bank beatnik.''

11. Like all excellent store buyers, Macko never stops shopping. He found these horn-and-silver cuff links in the 26th Street flea market for $50. ''They appear like some thing a 1920's hunter brought back from safari. They'll be fantastic cheap moncler sale having a black-and-white gingham shirt.''

12. Sometimes he doesn't have to appear far for particular things. This Woolrich hunting coat was his father's.
