Sugar Cane – Isn’t This Ironic?

It’s rather comical that in today’s society, doctors are still telling us that sugar is bad for you, that it will rot you teeth; give you diabetes, and a whole slew of other problems too long to list here? Well, they were only partially right. Refined sugars are bad for you, but there are sugars that are actually very beneficial to the function of the body. It’s just rather ironic that people that are very vigilant in the care of their teeth, and very seldom use anything with refined sugars, will still get cavities. The dental business is big business and is flourishing. If you don’t believe me, I dare you to watch any television for more than 5 minutes and not see a commercial about one type of toothpaste or another, or some mouth wash or dental rinse.
Reduce Decay with Sugar
How is this for irony? Yes, you heard me right; there is a simple sugar that will actually fight the decay of teeth, and the germs that cause that decay. There are a ton of products that you can get to fight cavities, make your teeth whiter, your breath better, and still people get cavities, lose the enamel from their teeth, and get gum disease. But if you would stop all of this madness and realize that what you do with your mouth isn’t as important as what you put in it. Yes, dental care is important, but it is not the end all solution to keeping your pearly whites in good shape. There is a safe, inexpensive, and great tasting way to help keep your smile in tip top condition, and it’s not by using that hazardous (but politically correct) toxic waste byproduct called fluoride. The product referred to here is xylitol, and it has many functions other than just keeping your teeth cavity free. Cavities are caused by the bacteria Streptococcus mutans, which xylitol reacts with them in much the same manner as it does with other mucus lined parts of the body, by keeping it from sticking to the surfaces of the cells and causing damage so they can simply be flushed away. Chewing xylitol gum up to five times a day can provide up to 80% more protection against these germs and it can be found in almost all health food stores.
Lower Cholesterol Levels
Another big patent medicine that has sky rocketed in the last few years is statin drugs, used in lowering cholesterol levels, and it is big money for medicine companies. This increased usage is due to the growth in heart disease in this country, and chances are that someone you know is taking some of these drugs. The problem with these drugs is that they have a whole host of bad side effects, and can through off the balance of your HDL levels. They can lower your bad cholesterol to relatively safe levels, but usually do nothing to raise the HDL levels, which is exactly what you do want. And they usually don’t have much effect on your triglycerides or preventing blood clots. So what do you do? Turn to the power of sugar cane. There is a simple fraction of sugar cane called policosanol that may just make the need for these statin drugs a thing of the past. It contains a group of eight to nine “long-chain alcohols” (solid, waxy compounds). In all of the studies that have been done so far, policosanol outperformed all of the major cholesterol lowering drugs in lowering the LDL levels, raising the HDL levels, and dropping the triglyceride levels. It also had a significant effect in lowering high blood pressure and didn’t affect the body’s ability to produce coenzyme Q10. There are a lot of studies still going on regarding this subject, so do your due diligence and research some for yourself if you have cholesterol problems, but in the meantime, add a little sugar to your life, and smile knowing that your health will be better. So stay on track, work on improving your health and wealth, and we will see each other on the beaches of the world.
